I LOVED THE THANKSGIVINGS of my childhood. Dinner started in the afternoon. It was usually all six of us and a few guests around the table, which we lengthened with leaves that were taken out of storage only twice a year, for this holiday and Christmas. We also pulled out dishware and silverware we used only once a year. The Franciscan Desert Rose pottery was set. out at Thanksgiving, and the Haviland china came out of the hutch only at Christmas --it was considered that special.
