A Garden's Grace
When Hali Hetz first came to the garden, the lupines were as tall as she was, their pink and purple spikes at eye level as she hopped from stone to stone through the newly awakened beds. Hali was two-and-a-half and her mother had just died from cancer. Yet, as Peggy Hetz recalls, it was spring and the garden needed weeding. "I was afraid I'd never get caught up," she says. So out they went, grandmother and granddaughter, to clear the garden of weeds and grass and bring order to a part of life they could.
